About the test
What does the accelerometer in my phone do?
An accelerometer is a sensor that senses acceleration of your phone on 3 axes:
- X axis - left and right
- Y axis - up and down
- Z axis - in and out, or towards you and away from you.
How do I know if the accelerometer is working correctly?
Start the test (on your mobile phone or other device with an accelerometer) and move the device up and down, left and right, and in and out. Try not to mix directions too much (for example, try not to move the phone up and to the left at the same time) - that would make it easier to discern if the test responded correctly. If the device moves in the right direction every time you move it - ignore the rebounding immediately after - it means that the accelerometer is working correctly.
Why does the test show my phone moving first in the right direction and then in an opposite direction?
Because the accelerometer senses acceleration of your phone rather than its location in space, once it stops moving the stop is registered as a negative acceleration - or in other words, as acceleration in the other direction. So don't worry if you see your phone 'rebounding' after it moved in the right direction. That is how it should work.
Does this accelerometer test for spin-type movements?
No, that is handled by a gyroscope, which you can test here.
Can I check other functions of my phone here?
