Get Easily Started With Your Test!
- Every time you strike a key on your keyboard the relevant key on the virtual keyboard will light up.
- Go over all the keys to make sure that they all work.
- If the entire virtual keyboard lights up (or at least all the keys that you have on your physical keyboard) then - hooray - that means your keyboard has passed the test!
What keyboard layouts is this test designed for?
- The keyboard you see on screen is designed to resemble a general English keyboard or American keyboard layout (BS 4822), but it's not an exact match. This would work with any layout, but the buttons on your keyboard may be in different spots. The buttons will light up when you press them - regardless of whether they are in the same physical spot or not.

Trouble-Shooting Guide
Keyboards are one of the most reliable pieces of computer hardware, yet they do experience problems from time to time. If you are having issues with your keyboard, see below for some common problems and solutions. Good luck!
- If your keys are unresponsive or sticking, this can often be caused by dust building up inside your keyboard.
Step 1. Try turning your keyboard upside down and gently tapping it on the back to release any dust in the keys.
Step 2. If this does not seem to work, try using a compressed air cleaner meant for electronics and keyboards, which you can purchase at any office store or online.
Step 3. This should solve the problem. However, if you have spilled something sticky on your keyboard in the past, such as a soda, this may result in damage which cannot be so easily fixed. If this is the case, your best option is to purchase a new keyboard, or take it to an electronics repair store to get their opinion on if it can be fixed.
- If your keyboard is not responding, there could be several causes to this issue. Most likely it is a connection issue between the keyboard and the computer.
Step 1. Check the cable between keyboard and the computer to see if it is securely engaged.
Step 2. Plug your keyboard into a different port. If it works, then the previous port was defective.
Step 3. Also try plugging in a keyboard you know functions into the port. If it works, you know the issue is with your keyboard, not the port.
Step 4. Sometimes the pins inside the cable or the connection port can become bent, not allowing for a good connection. If this is the case, gently straighten the pins with tweezers or a small set of needle nose pliers, or connect to a different port if you have multiple.
- If the wrong letter or symbol appears when you hit the keys, it is possible your keyboard is set to an incorrect layout, or its software could be out of date.
Step 1. To change the layout, go to Settings→ Keyboard.
Step 2. Select the correct language and layout (QWERTY is the standard layout) and save your selection.
Step 3. If you think your software could be out of date, look up your keyboard’s manufacturer.
Step 4. Once on their website, search for updates for your specific keyboard.
Step 5. Download the software, disconnect your keyboard, restart your computer, and then reconnect your keyboard. This should effectively update your keyboard to the latest software.
